I have been using essential oils for around 15 years and my first experience of essential oil healing was after a local Aromatherapist made up a cream to help reduce the itching from a small patch of excema on my neck. Much to my surprise, it worked and I have been hooked on essential oils ever since! I moved back to Edinburgh a few years later and found myself enrolling in an Aromatherapy class at a local Education Centre. This was an inspirational experience - I felt as if I were 'home' from the first time I did any massage and after attending for a few terms, I decided to become qualified so that I was able to bring this wonderful form of healing to more people. My world was about to be changed forever!
I qualified in Aromatherapy in 1999 with The Edinburgh Therapy Academy and a few months after qualifying came my first introduction to Raindrop Technique. An extremely knowledgeable and experienced American practitioner, called Kiannaa T. Leighland, came to Edinburgh with Raindrop Technique in 2000 and I was fortunate enough to be one of the people attending that workshop and one of the very first people to be trained in Raindrop Technique in the UK.
I attended the workshop with a dear friend who had invited me to go with her, intrigued to know more. I had seriously injured my back six weeks previously and was in severe pain with sciatica to the tips of both big toes and my movement was limited and agonising. My GP was even starting to talk about back operations, because nothing so far had made any improvement to my condition. I received a Raindrop treatment on that first day and found myself feeling quite strange as I lay there - that I had no worries, that all was well. I went home that evening feeling very relaxed, but still in severe pain and couldn't hide my disappointment. However, on waking the next morning, after the first full nights sleep since injuring my back, I got out of bed to discover I was fully mobile and pain free. I was astounded and excited, as was the dear friend who had persuaded me to go in the first place!
Looking back, I now understand that this first Raindrop treatment had really opened the door and an enormous shift had taken place, both physically, emotionally and spiritually. It had moved me on, further than I knew at the time and allowed me to grow and journey to where I am now. This shift has also taken place with many of my clients and students and it is perhaps no wonder that Raindrop Technique has featured very highly in my practice and tutoring since then. It continues to excite and amaze me with its effects 8 years on!
I am also a qualified Reflexologist and often use essential oils on reflex points on the feet to aid the healing process. My practice includes both Classic and Tibetan Reflexology. I do love working with feet - they literally are the windows to our 'soul' and I find both methods of Reflexology fabulous to practice.
Since qualifying and attending that first Raindrop workshop, I have been in contact with Kiannaa ever since and she has provided great support and knowledge over the years. I have assisted her at numerous Raindrop Technique and Tibetan Reflexology workshops held in Scotland and England over the years and am very experienced in this field.
I have also taught Aromatherapy and Reflexology evening classes in Edinburgh and these classes have included Raindrop Technique.
After attending that first ever Raindrop workshop in 2000, I set about ensuring that it became recognised and insured by CThA and feel this a real step forward for Aromatherapy in the UK.
